Jeffrey Wright moves to 'Broken City'

Jeffrey Wright has joined cast of Allen Hughes' "Broken City," joining Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe in the NY City crime thriller. Wahlberg stars as a Brooklyn detective hired by a powerful politician (Crowe) to identify his wife's lover, who is subsequently found and killed. Wright will play the police commissioner who has a complicated history with the Crowe's character. Justin Chambers, James Ransone and Griffin Dunne recently joined the cast, which includes Catherine Zeta-Jones, Barry Pepper and Alona Tal. Pic was packaged by Emmett/Furla, scripted by Brian Tucker and is skedded for release on Jan. 18, 2013 by 20th Century Fox. Wright, repped by CAA, was last seen in "Ides of March." He'll also appear in Stephen Daldry's "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close," which Warner Bros. opens in limited release on Christmas. Contact Dave McNary at dave.mcnary@variety.com
